Supra San Francisco Meetup

  • 580 Howard Street San Francisco, CA, 94105 United States (map)

Hosted another stellar group of Supra Product Leaders last night. Everybody mingled freely, shared their stories and ate and drank well.

I met a leader who is contemplating a switch from the tech grind. This person has had long stints at major tech companies but was thinking of an alternative lifestyle that had more fun and less work.

Another leader had been moved by their company to an important but very different role. This was a major compliment to their success but the new job has a lot more travel and not necessarily to amazing locations.

With all the layoffs at large, profitable, multi-national corporations, many top leaders are wondering whether startup jobs are actually less stable than enterprise jobs. You can do a great job at an enterprise but if Wall Street needs returns its possible your part of the org gets cut.

At Supra, there's a mix of startup and big tech leaders so folks can share perspectives and learn from one another.

This is all part of the creative destruction that tech jobs bring. There aren't strong unions in tech. Instead there is self-education, networking and always being on the lookout for opportunities. Very different than my spouse who is a teacher in a public school district.

Working in tech is risky but it's a calculated risk I'll keep taking. Thanks to Supra for helping its members navigate these challenges with grace and confidence.

Thank you to the team at Blok for letting us hang out in their true startup digs (South of Market location, real brick walls, video game machines, and so on).

Shout out to our hosts Arianna Mauri, Olivia Higgs, and Tom Charman.

Shout out to Amna Javed and Marc Baselga for making the event happen. We're all so lucky to have you two.
