UC Berkeley: Marketing & Product Management Class

In this class, students will learn the core aspects of exploring new product ideas with confidence.

Using a hands-on methodology, this course explores how Product Management can find the right product for the right customers. Students will go from theory to reality in each session by reading the background material and then putting the techniques into practice during class.

Students will form into teams and use these techniques to explore an idea on their own (from a list of ideas provided by the instructor). This includes conducting “lean startup” market tests with real consumers. As a final project, teams will report back to the class on how this process helped them understand the viability of their idea.

But having a viable product is not enough. Product Management teams must rally their colleagues (legal, sales, etc) and management to support their efforts. And they must avoid a “build it and they will come” mindset. We will learn Product Marketing best practices to be thoughtful and successful when we bring a product to market.

This class is only available to Masters of Engineering students at the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at UC Berkeley
